( TRIGGER WARNING )
If you’re struggling stay motivated while trying to achieve your goals, not to worry. Your girl is here to help!
When it comes to achieving a desired result, motivation will get you started but DISCIPLINE will keep you going. It’s all about keeping a commitment to yourself no matter the circumstances. We need to embrace the suck and realize we’re not always going to feel motivated, that’s why discipline is key. Putting in the work when you don’t feel like it is what separates the winners from the losers and the achievers to the failures. You might think that’s harsh, but what’s worse is living your whole life thinking someone is the reason for your failures.. Your life is in your hands, period. No person can ever keep you stuck without you allowing it to. You are SO capable and will achieve nothing by playing woe is me! So let’s be the women who take personal responsibility for their lives and not the ones who live by their excuses.
I warned ya! haha.
Okay if you’re ready to learn how to stay disciplined, follow these 5 steps.
- Know your why
It’s vital to know exactly why you want to achieve your goal. Write down what you want and why it MUST happen. Your why needs to be bigger than yourself, when it’s only about you’ll likely let yourself off the hook. It helps to tie in other people who will benefit from your achievement too.
For example, one of my why’s is to grow my brand to make a difference in women’s lives, but ALSO to bring in enough income to be a stay at home mom. Another idea is thinking about what will happen if you don’t reach your goal. Who will it impact? Or what could this mean for your health? Reflecting on a negative alternative can be an even BIGGER driving force. Personally it’s the one that gets me moving!
2. Create a Plan
If you fail to plan, you plan to fail. Take a few minutes and write out exactly how you’re going to make this happen. Create specific and achievable goals that will keep you on track. Be realistic when you do this, I’d hate for you to create something that isn’t sustainable making you feel worse! Try sharing your plan with a trusted source to get their opinion, they can offer a fresh perspective and solutions. I share my game plans with my husband because he knows what I’m capable of, but also when I’m stacking too much on my plate. ( UGHH )
3. Take action
If you’ve ever gone on a run, did you notice how once you got moving it was easier to keep going? Compared to stopping and having to rebuild up that momentum? That’s because of Newton’s Law of Motion. He says “An object in motion tends to stay in motion” And it apply’s to working toward your goals too. Once your action becomes consistent it’s easier to stay in the mode. It can feel as if you’re moving faster than you ever have, compared to when you worked when it was convenient. Soon you’re building a new habit and working towards your goal is just a part of your life- no more mental ping pong! The more action you take the more excited you become because every effort is getting you closer to your dream. Once you get in this rhythm no one can stop you.
4) Pour into yourself
You need to keep your mind sharp or the lazy days will break your groove. I’m all for rest days, but not for rest weeks or months! It’s VITAL to your success to be reading self help books or listening to audio book of someone achieving something great. I personally love podcasts that share pieces of motivational talks. It keeps me focused and inspires me to keep going when, ahem, I just don’t feel like it!
5) Celebrate your wins
There’s nothing more fun than celebrating YOUR OWN SUCCESS!! A go me moment for the blood sweat and tears that went into achieving what you wanted. Woo!
I don’t think there’s a number for how often to celebrate, because it’s important to recognize the milestones you’re making. Share your wins with friends and fam, but also by yourself! Eat some ice cream or whatever you feel is right.
At the end of the day, only you know what you are or not doing.
You’re the one staying disciplined and keeping your why in front of you.
And YOU are the one taking ultimate responsibility for your life!
With love,
Cathy
